Mr Michael Walton

Mr Michael Walton is a Consultant Shoulder Surgeon at The Arm Clinic and Wrightington Hospital, specialising in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of shoulder conditions and sports-related injuries.
Mr Walton qualified with honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nottingham before completing specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the renowned Bristol rotation. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in shoulder surgery and sports injury management at the University of Western Australia, where he worked with leading experts caring for elite athletes and military personnel.
His practice covers the full spectrum of shoulder problems, including rotator cuff tears, instability and dislocations, frozen shoulder, arthritis, and complex or revision reconstruction. He has a particular interest in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and joint replacement, aiming to deliver the most effective and least invasive treatments to help patients return to their chosen activities as quickly and safely as possible.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Walton is an active researcher and educator. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, regularly presents at national and international conferences, and contributes to professional guidelines and training programmes. He is also the Clinical Director of the Upper Limb Unit at Wrightington Hospital, recognised as a centre of excellence for shoulder surgery.
Mr Walton takes pride in delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care. He works closely with specialist physiotherapists, radiologists, and rehabilitation teams to provide comprehensive treatment plans tailored to each individual’s needs, whether treating professional athletes or patients with long-standing shoulder problems.
Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, kite-surfing, cycling, and sailing, and values the perspective these activities bring to his clinical practice.
