Prof Adam Watts

Prof Adam Watts MBBS, BSc, FRCS (Tr&Orth)
Is a Fellowship-trained elbow, wrist & upper-limb surgeon based at The Arm Clinic (The Wilmslow Hospital, Alexandra Hospital) and Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. He earned his MBBS (1997) and BSc (1994) from the University of London and completed advanced fellowships in Adelaide, Australia, and Wrightington and Glasgow, UK .
A global authority in elbow surgery, Prof Watts excels in arthroscopic and endoscopic techniques, complex trauma reconstruction, joint replacement, instability management, and soft-tissue upper-limb repair.
He is Clinical Director for Research at Wrightington, co-convenor of the Wrightington Elbow Symposium, Visiting Professor at Manchester University, and has published 130+ peer‑reviewed papers and chapters on elbow biomechanics, arthroplasty, trauma, and sports injuries.
He regularly presents at national and international meetings, contributes to national clinical guidelines, and serves as Editor for the Bone & Joint Journal and Shoulder & Elbow Journal, while also sitting on the National Joint Registry Editorial Board .
Through The Arm Clinic and NHS foundations, Prof Watts delivers patient-centred, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of upper limb conditions, ranging from sports injuries and elbow arthritis to nerve problems and trauma - working closely with multidisciplinary teams .
When not at the hospital, he enjoys cycling, sailing, and running, pursuits he says sharpen his focus and endurance in the operating theatre.
